From 2015 onwards, e-commerce businesses has substantially risen and is expected to continue its upward trajectory and rapid growth in the coming years. Who would possibly want to let such a good opportunity slip away? If you are someone who is thinking of starting a nice little e-commerce shop to sell your new brand line, or even just an e-marketing company still trying to accumulate a solid client base, now is the perfect time to step back and reevaluate your current marketing tactics. Are you using the correct methods or implementations of targeted campaigns to bring in more devoted customers?
Here are some key advices for you to ALWAYS think about:
1. Always plan your marketing strategies before you launch-
It is a big NO NO for e-commerce entrepreneurs to rush the launch of a website when we all know that there is only one chance at launching a site that immediately catches everybody’s attention. You need to double check to make sure you have all the back-end work ready (SEO, content marketing, social media, paid ads, etc.). By all means you can register for a domain name and have a “Coming Soon” page on hold, but never start without a plan!
2. Always put the focus onto end users-
Since it is an obvious issue that a major disadvantage with e-commerce business is the inability for customers to test drive (touch or feel) the products before buying it, it is very important for us to offer some ideal compensation such as reasonable pricing, offering free shipping, and even shortening checkout process with simplified shopping cart systems and shorter checkout forms.
3. Always diversify your social media platforms-
It is always better to spread your attention on multiple SM platforms than to just focus on a single one as you won’t know which platforms work best in certain markets. By spreading your content onto multiple platforms such as FB, IG, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, and Google Plus pages, you can easily find out which mediums works best through SM analytics tools and this way it allows your customers every way possible to connect with your company.
You would not want to risk losing any potential customers do you?
4. Always launch your store on multiple e-commerce platforms-
There are hundreds of e-commerce platforms around the world for you to choose from including but not limited to Ebay, Amazon, Etsy, Yahoo, Q0010, Carousell, even Facebook. They all serve different selling purposes and by listing your product onto several platforms leads you the opportunity to reach out to a more diversified customer base.
5. Always create your own organic content & stop being copy cats-
By creating organic content you are more likely to build a stronger bond with your customers, original content like videos and blog posts are useful information to help build your e-commerce empire. These content may serve as a knowledge base for those who likes to dig deeper into understanding more about the current market. All that said, it is also critical to hire someone just for content writing (like me!), yes content writing/ blogging is very time consuming and long form content may be boring to some, but it is another way to standout from all other ordinary blog posts on other sites.
6. Always reach out to customers in their native languages-
Language is a key factor to online sales, how can a customer buy your product if they can’t even understand what you are selling or how your product works. Always provide translation features in your online store to suit global consumer needs. This way you can easily sell your products all over the world.
7. Always insert loads of photos in your content-
After all, we humans are 90% visual creatures.
8. Always stay on top of the SEO tier in order to stand out from competition-
The only way to stand out from increasing competition is to stay on top of the SEO tier, and to do so you will need to strategically implement keywords to help search engines identify you as a store that sells certain products within a certain market.
9. Always Personalise-
Personalization is the ultimate gateway into striking customer’s heart and making your brand more approachable, personalization can range from branding your company with a ‘face’ to voicing your emails with a simple thank you message along with the confirmation receipt, every little detail creates an impact on your customer’s heart, it will make them feel warm and welcome which then leads to a deeper attachment between you and your customers.
10. Always remind people about their wish-list-
Who does not want to possess the things you have on your wish-list? This list is a helpful reminder for users to actually sealing the deal, you can kindly send your customers an email to remind them that there are still some steps to be made before their wanted items can be delivered. It is also important to shorten payment process as much as possible, as any user including myself is not bothered to go through a huge fuss.
11. Always welcome customers to write product reviews, ratings, and other free marketing options-
Let me ask you this, how often do you decide to buy a product online solely because you read good reviews about it? I’m guessing 75% of the time. Product ratings and reviews are very useful buffers for providing social credibility and persuasive to other customers to buy the products based on users feedback. Always encourage your customers to take a little time and write a small review about the product they bought, maybe even set up a rewards system for the accumulative times of product reviews they make, a little goes a long way.
Forums, discussion areas, and small blogging sites with huge follower base are other online channels for you to consider using, these options are cost effective and has similar effect on product promotion. Tip: You can send the writer a product sample as a little gift for them to publish your article faster and this way they can have the real thing to test out with that helps with better reviews.
12. Always respond to your customers-
Always cater to your customer’s needs, no matter it be a form of email response within 24 hours, actively replying comments on company social pages, or having a live chat module on your shopping site, if they are satisfied with your fast responding services they will more likely come back for more!
13. Always opt for best delivery options for greater customer satisfaction-
Either you partner up with a trusted logistics company or you search for ways to speed up delivery process, you have to build a reputation for fast delivery so that customers will more likely come back to you again.
14. Always generate a monthly sales performance report for future analysis-
Don’t forget to always generate a bi-weekly or monthly sales performance report so that you can utilise it for future strategic planning, this will help identify poorly performing aspects of your company for you to modify the marketing scheme and maximise overall revenue.
15. Most important of all, Always find something FABULOUS to sell!
